SkinPen® Precision Indications
SkinPen® Precision Microneedling System is a medical device intended to treat facial acne scars in adults aged 22 years or older. SkinPen® Precision Microneedling System is also intended to help improve the cosmetic appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical scars, enlarged pores and pigmentation conditions (dyschromia).
Acne scars
Ice Pick Scars:
- Ice pick scars are atrophic scars that are marked by deep, narrow indentations, usually less than 2mm in diameter.
- These scars penetrate deep into the skin, resembling the effect of being punctured by an ice pick or a similar sharp object.
Boxcar Scars:
- Boxcar scars are recognized by their angular shape and defined, vertical edges.
- Their depth can range from shallow to deep.
- These scars are most often seen on the cheeks and temples.
Rolling Scars:
- Rolling scars are the result of damage beneath the skin’s surface, leading to a wave-like texture.
- These scars are typically broad and shallow in appearance.
Mechanism of Action:
- Mechanically breaks down scar tissue.
- Activates cellular enzymes known as matrix metalloproteinases, or MMPs.
- Remodels scar tissue through the proper deposition of collagen and elastin.
- Addresses the red and purple discoloration associated with acne scars by increasing blood flow.
- Addresses the brown discolorations, or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), associated with acne scars by stimulating the skin’s natural growth factors.
